Definition
Open-weights models — Llama, Mistral, Qwen, DeepSeek — distribute trained weights for self-hosting and fine-tuning, but training data and code may remain proprietary. They sit between fully closed (GPT, Claude) and fully open-source (OLMo, Pythia) models.
